School Readiness
We try to ensure all children are ‘school ready’ to help ease the ‘big’ transition into Primary School. We start this the academic year before your child is due to go to school. We do this by promoting self-help (we would greatly appreciate your help and co-operation with this) and putting more structure into the Pre-School routine, we also introduce programmes such as Ten Town and Letters & Sounds- we provide parent workshops for this.
Letters & Sounds
Letters & Sounds is a programme devised by the DFE to help practitioners teach children how the alphabet works for reading and spelling. This is done by fostering children’s speaking and listening skills as valuable in their own right and teaching high quality phonic work.
We mainly teach Phase 1 in Pre-School and this falls largely in the Communication, Language & Literacy area of learning in the EYFS.
Ten Town
This is a unique Early Years Numeracy Scheme designed to improve number recognition and formation. King One, Fiona Five, Sir Seven and all the Ten Town friends bring numbers alive in an exciting way for all children.
Ten Town is an interactive programme and we use the Nursery Laptop to watch clips and join in with the songs. Ten Town is carried out every afternoon and the children learn a new number and character a week.
